A must see!!! Body worlds is now touring the US. It will remain here in Houston for 2 more months. What is this Body Worlds? It's about 50 dissected bodys on display in various positions seemingly performing various tasks. It puts me in mind of the work of the artist Alex Grey. The artist is German born. Gunter Von (something). There was much controversy when the exhibit opened here. The main reason for the tusk was that there was no verification on where the actual bodies came from. They are known to be from Japan but there is no documentation on the bodies being willed to this exhibit or science.

The controversy was that many of the cadavers are "unclaimed corpses" provided by local authorities in China and Russia. Which removes the "donor consent" concept. Also, China isn't well-known for its regulatory attention to these matters, and it has been suggested that some were the corpses of executed criminals, which, along with the controversy about convicts being executed for their organs to be harvested, kinda leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

However, controversy aside, it is a fascinating exhibition. I saw it in London, quite a few years ago. Enthralling, if gruesome.

I think ther were 3 exhibits I saw the 3rd. Some of the displays in the others are awesome like the one above. The most awe inspiring one I viewed was called the wizard. It looked like an indian w/ a headpiece flaying out everywhere when it was actually strips of tissue.

Oh yeah, I've heard about that exhibit! Ewwww....creepy!

My wife and kids and I went to Cleveland to see it (last year I think?)  and to us science geeks it was pretty neat.  You get to see hom the muscles and tendons interact and all sorts of cool stuff.  There were some art students their too.  I'm thinking it was to learn about proportions of the human body.  All in all I give it a 7 out of 10 rating.

It ranked a 10 out of 10 for me. I've never been so close to anything like it. I mean looking at pictures and video is a totally different experience. There were alot of children at the exhibit both times I went. Its very educational. Lots of med students and such.
