A guy I met is practically threatening me to play Guild Wars.  It kinda looks ok and it's great that you don't have to pay a ridiculous monthly fee for a game you just payed for but...$50 is quite a bit for me and a third game is coming out soon anyway (the previously mentioned guy has the date memorized).

Would You recommend it DV?

Definitely! What is the $50 for? Is that how much they charge for the game in the USA? Over here it costs US$18 (just under GB£10) My eldest son just bought a copy this week to take back to Dubai. The game is massive. Take a look at its wikipedia entry here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild_wars

The new expansion is Nightfall - currently in beta testing, due for release October 27th. I play Prophecies, and there is also Factions. I think the majority of people are on Prophecies.

It plays well - I have a high spec PC, but always skimp on the graphics cards (cheapskate at heart!) and I have no problems with the gameplay. And as you say - its free! Unlike Stormreach, which is a fantastic game but at the back of my mind some of the enjoyment is leeched out of the experience when I think about how much it is costing me... angry

I avoid MMORPGs like the plague. I let enough of my life get leeched away by games without succumbing to the online experience. I'll stick with single player, keep my girlfriend, and my high marks in school; it's a good trade-off.

I see Amazon in the US are now shipping Guild Wars at $34.98. I don't know if that's the cheapest deal, though.

You should check out the gameplay page at the GW site http://www.guildwars.com/gameplay/

We could always start a Monstrous Guild...

I usually play Factions more than Prophices.  Mostly because it's easier to torment n00bs in Factions.

Another reason to choose Guild Wars...

When you need to take a break from killing critters, undertaking legendary quests and swording and sorcering, you can just kick back with ya homies and bust some moves.

These are actual in-game footage - not cut scenes - of individual online players getting together and getting their characters to dance. The huge synchronised dance scenes... wow, they must have taken some setting up!
