I know about the battle thing. It's like someone else is making the moves for you. That's the way it is with me and my plastic sword. It may be plastic, but I can parry, anything. And all I've done is watch people on TV.

This seems like a pretty common phenomena for most people I've known.  I tend to attribute it to adrenaline and instinct.  Of course, some people have natural talents that make that instinct stronger and more focused.  I'm not particularly strong or coordinated, but when in a fight (mock fight that is, I don't get into real fights as I don't like seriously hurting people) I can usually do alright even though I'm 5'1" and pretty slim simply due to having strong instincts.

Yeah I think most likely (or a big factor at least) the answer is adrenaline. The most powerful drug in the world.

Believe me, she's viscious.  I still have a couple of scars on me from over six months ago.  Battle instinct nothing, she has a beast instinct (to be fair, I instigated the mock fighting and got the scratch while doing so.)

No, I black out when I fight.  Most of the fights I've been in, someone else tells me what has happened.  That only applied when I decide to go on the offensive.  When on defensive, I just tend to block everything through Karate moves I was taught as a child when I'm actually afraid of getting hurt.  I believe that some of the reason that I can do what I can do is the fact that my great-grandfather was champion boxer fot he Pasific fleet in the Navy.  My grandfather was champion barfighter in a coal-mining community.  My dad was always picked on in his area and had to defend himself well, so he grew up knowing how to handle himself.  Combine the history of that with a little bit of training on Karate in all defensive movement, being picked on enough in school that one of the bullies taught me how to fight some, and strong survival instinct from when I got beat a bit as a child, and I think that is what allows me to handle myself in fights.

Heart; AKA ferocity, tenacity, stubborness, etc., is probably the primary consideration when it comes to fighting. Some folks have so much of it combined with a lower level of self control, which causes them to 'black out'. People who do this are generally 'berserkers', or folks of smaller stature, and so end up terrorizing their opponent with the level of ferocity they bring to the fight. Thus they steal their opponent's 'heart', and then the fight is won.

You'd be suprised at how many people are or could be berserkers. For example, I am a berserker as well. This is the reason why I don't fight much.

Sorry for disapearing and not responding to the question, I've been out of town for a few days.  Still am, but I caught the net.

Moloch's description sounds about accurate though.  I've got the qualities mentioned to some degree plus the hereditary potential for extreme rage which has caused other member of my family to black out in the same way.  For example, my dad blacked out when confronted by a teacher he hated in hogh school who was forcing him to do an oral report.  A classmate of his reported to him that he had cussed out the teacher in Spanish, Olde English, Gaelic, and English with a heavy Scotch Accent.  Anyone tell his heritage?  wink

Yeah, luckily I've been able to keep myself from blacking out even in some very intense rages of mine.  I haven't blacked out in over six years now.  At least not because of rage.

I haven't been quite as lucky as Rob there. The fortunate part for me is that the cause has always been on the other end of a telecommunications network, so it completely negates my ability to find a worthy outlet. I do have an outlet for cases such as that; however. I'd prefer not to go into it. It's still not healthy but it's the best alternative to actually acting out on those feelings.

My "alternative" happens to be awaking a genetic trait for tendencies towards mental disorders.  I have an extremely mild version of Dissasociative Identity Disorder where it's more acute than the mere arguing with oneself or having seperate selves, but not enough to make me totally unstable.
