With only a Bullet and a Prayer...

« on: October 25, 2006, 08:29:31 PM »

I am sick and tired of us (including myself) disecting newcomers and calling them liars. I propose the X Tamed Monsters Policy of 2006 (the full title) we instated into The Law and The Way. I am posting here because I want discussion on it.

(If DV gets the Commandments theme, I want the Constitution theme.  jester)

We the monsters, in order to form a more perfect commuinty and establish justice, do here by tame ourselves and allow the newcomers to speak. Monsters shall not shoot down one another, for we need to stand together in this cold world. We the monsters shall not hunt for liars as the normies did in the witch trials. We the monsters will learn from eachother, embrace eachother, and never let our brothers and sisters down! Anyone whom shall break these guidelines shall be banished from our community for a time of reflection and meditation, even a man of power.

(Do I need to make an english version or can we get the gist of what I am saying?)

Debate it!

I agree, people here jump on anyone who claims to be a shifting were, a vampire, demon slayer/hunter, faery see'ers, and anything else that sounds 'too good to be true'. We here at Monstrous are here to help and discuss all things monstrous, or weird. Not to be skeptical to members, we want to keep members, not loose them.

I agree as well. We say that we're a safe haven, and then turn away those who seek refuge. I for one, refer people here if they are looking for answers, or a place to find people of similar beliefs. It's been sad to see some of those very people come to me and say that they were treated poorly.  The Monstrous community as a whole are better than that. We need to embrace our differences, be open to possibilities, and expand our knowledge. Thanks for bringing this up X.

Even at the expense of credulity amongst our kind? No, there needs to be some reality to this if it's to work. Just because someone can 'say' they are this or that does not make it so. If after a time that person's posts bear them out fine. Interrogation tactics and accusations though are certainly wrong. For those of us in "the Know", we have the responsibility to enforce the Monstrous policy, constitution, Law, etc. It falls on us then to be the examples. Instead of having to put down in writing, and then ratify what should be common sense, common respect, and common decency, let us just simply do it instead. Let those of us selected to wield power do so; fairly, justly, and firmly.

I know of the situations M is referring to, and I agree for the most part. But we do need for the folks who join here to realize that this is not some kind of new RPG site. That's all I needed to say on this.

We should atleast have solid evidence before we pounce on someone for saying something.

Thank you everyone for your input.  I truly appreciate everyone's concerns and opinions on the site and its members.

Yes, we do want to distinguish ourselves from a role playing game and establish ourselves as a serious site.  To do so, we need to at times be rather critcal of members and their claims.  We often need to analyze posts to judge character of our members as well.

However, judgements should be kept to the appropriate places mainly ourselves and (when felt necesary) Mod HQ to see if they stand the test of time so to speak.  Even if you do feel necesary to contact the person, always be sure to do so in a civil and calm manner.  So it's ok to privately doubt, just no inquisitions.

I will not be incorporating this into the official rules however I will put this into the appropriate section.  I also expect that all members to not pounce on others due to common courtesey.

Hello,

Until now, we have not even tried to shape the monstrous community, we are a bunch of people from all strolls of life at various  ages and from distinct cultural and/or racial background ... We set rules because no democracy work without laws and leaders to enforce them.

But we should not fall into the tolerance pitfall ... How to welcome those young, vibrant kids while pursuing our task because the little bastards pollute the boards with stupid act of faith like "I am a werewolf, I am a vampire, I am resurected, I walk with the Devil ..."

I would suggest then to organize the community into different tribes/orders, each new member will be directed to his tribe chief ...

All tribe chiefs will swear allegiance to the Monstrous.  ... So the term vampire, were, .... will just be like the flag or sign of distinction. This way we can accomodate various beliefs that would otherwise collude into each other because of differences or discrepencies

Let me know what you think

I would like to point out just one thing; labels tend to divide. We can already see for ourselves on here what these labels do. I would like to propose that we simply refer to ourselves as the Monstrous People. Just as all those who believe in The American Way are Americans; so will all those who believe in The Monstrous Way be Monstrous People. Of course sub -groups are a good idea for support and research purposes. However, to draw lines in the sand is a bad idea in my own humble opinion.

I dont think its quite like drawing a line in a sand, its more of: this is a place for you and our kin (whatever kin you feel like most). Tribal system doesnt sound bad, but we should all consider well, of laws (too many of them will make it too harsh maybe) and tribe leaders Or chiefs, if you wish(it would be wise to select them wise, mods would become chiefs, and there is still the main one, whose voice should count as strongest).

But, maybe you should consider the idea of making a new category for all those younglins, who just feel different but not really shore why. Cause, maybe they dont feel vamp or were, maybe they just hold this sense of unussual power in them and arround them... I dont know, just an idea...

I am of the opinion that you have the right to vigorously and passionately defend your point of view.   And if a person posts an opinion based question, lets say "Do you belief in Christians?" they need to be ready for the miriad of replies they are going to recieve.

That doesn't mean that you can hammer a person for a difference of opinion, but should be able to freely rebuke what another states about your beliefs.

Example:  If someone claims to be a mage but does only non-mage things, any other mage should be able to that out.

Example:  If someone claims to worship God, be a Christain, and then proceedes to recommend non-Biblical advice on supernatural events I will take them to task.

I apollogize if this doesn't sit well with everyone, I guess it comes being passionate about one's beliefs.

Phantom X, The_Seeker and I have completely different beliefs, but neither of us claims to be the other and have been able to disagree but not attack one another.   I see nothing wrong with that
