THE ODYSSEY EXPLAINED:
http://www.kubrick2001.com/

Great animated sequence about the allegory behind the Kubrick film..Of course, we come to find that HAL wasn't really "evil" at all, but had only been programmed, by forces in the White House no less, to keep the secret of the Jupiter monolith from those aboard the joint US/Russian space mission.

I think a number of the events were explained in 2010, both the novel and he film.

smiley Yeah, it's explained a little bit more in 2010, but that animation link above gets a bit more into the unsaid allegorical aspects..

Clark also wrote 2 more follow-ups..

2061: Odyssey Three

3001: The Final Odyssey

I wish they had been able to make a sequel to 2010.
