Okay, with the content of this forum, I am seriously suprised that no one has mentioned this game on here.  F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) is an absolutely beautiful first person shooter for the computer where you're part of an assault team that is going in against a psychic that has gone crazy.  I really don't want to give away too much of the game because it is so good, but if you're looking for a game to tear your nerves to sheds, this is it.  It was quite something to see my most "macho" friend after he spent a whole eight hours in complete darkness playing this game.  He was a wreck.

Unfortunately, I've only watched people play it so far, but I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of it as soon as possible.  Let me know if any of you have played it and your opinions on the game.

I read a review of this game, sounds pretty sweet and gorey. It said you can freeze time and this evil little demented undead girl shows up to chase you. What is up with that? huh

Freezing time isn't quite as accurate as slowing down time using reflexes.  The little girl is a ghost who's torturing the psychic and makes him go mad.

My bad, but it sounds like "slowing down time" becomes very useful in hard levels. And it seems that is adds more to the gore HAHAHAHA jester jester jester jester jester jester jester jester grin

Slowing down time is useful, but given what you're up against you can still get slaughtered.  I played the game a little and was jittery for the rest of the day.  FEAR is a very apt name.  I get very into my games, so it's always tough when my character starts hallucinating or has to deal with a supernatural being that basically kills anything it touches and seems to be telekenetic and telepathic among other things.  Freaky, monstrous, and just generally awesome from the little I've played.

There is a free online multiplayer version of the game available for download

This game is so scary but it's so strange that no one posted in doom3 although in my opinion its better than f.e.a.r

That looks very different from what we're talking about for one main reason:  it's multiplayer.  The single player game is frightening in aspects I can't see them including in the multiplayer version.  Honestly, the FPS part of the game was never that interesting or breakthrough (at least not to me), but it was the content of the game and the warping of reality that makes this more frightening than any game I've seen to date.

I've never played Doom 3, and I haven't even played Doom in years, so I couldn't say much about it.  I never heard very much about what really makes me love a game: the story.  Actually, I haven't heard much good about it at all, but then again I've never played it myself.  Maybe I'm just around too many "old-school" and "elitist" gamers.  wink

I agree that there should have been a topic about Doom 3, but I never really thought it worth mentioning.  I borrowed it once, but when I played it, I became so angry that I wasted my time in borrowin' it.  Why don'tcha make a topic for it then, and we can discuss its merits and faults?  Or even make a topic about Doom 3 versus FEAR?

It's not that bad to be angry you just have to finish levels quickly to get in the real deep story and in the game mood.

I always hated games where the story doesn't get good until the end.  I don't know, my idea of a fun time isn't blitzing through levels of the game.  Blitzing through character levels - sometimes.
