I'm going to leave this part of the challenge up for three days before I respond  to the answers. Anyone can take the challenge.

In front of you is an empty box in an empty room. There is one of 2 things in the box.

The first think will make you feel very good.

The second thing will cause pain.

Your only way to discover which one is in the box is to ask three questions. The only limitation is that you cannot ask which one of the 2 there is.

What are your three questions?

Can I eat it?

Can I kill someone with it?

Is it concealable?

First of all, for those that took part in this little challenge, thanks.

I'd like to point out that there is no definite right answer to the box question. Its just a fun quiz that sheds light on the way we approach situations.

Also my responses to your questions are just my opinions and I present them for your entertainment only.

The way to get insight from the test is to look at the focus of the questions you asked.

Generally speaking your answers to the question reveal you to be really well adjusted, intelligent, rational healthy people. For a forum of freaks and self confessed wierdos thats really something. I take my hat off to you in admiration. Your far healthier and well adjusted than many so called educators and therapists who have also been exposed to this test.

The nature of your questions reveals your associations to pain and pleasure.

From your responses I can see that your questions were based on every day experiences ie does it smell good? is it familiar? can I eat it? Questions like this show where you often find pleasure, in direct simple everyday events.

Questions such as does it bite?  does it have sharp points? again show the sort of things we link to pain. Again these are all very down to earth, realistic and practical questions. All that says is that the questioner is likely to be realistic, concerned with practical things and down to earth. Typically such people are usually free of many mental hangups.  Get the idea?

Nina asked a set of questions that are difficult to assess from the outside. Its not obvious where you are linking pain and pleasure. (chemicals!)  In fact its not even obvious wether your questions were all pain or all pleasure based. Thats unusual.  But that just indicates a highly individual character. The questions were direct, and straight forward, and practical. I would imagine that this is how you actually are.  Such people are rare and unique and very worthwhile getting to know.

Were-ninja asked how dangerous the bad thing was. Could I kill someone with it? This reveals a tendency to measure or quantify fear/danger/pain. Normally I would say that this is a bit of a mind trap that stops us taking action. However he clearly reveals that he measures the danger in order to best know how to use it. Some might say this is a form of sado masichism, I disagree. I would say its an absolute hoot! This shows a person where the distinctions between pain and pleasure seem to overlap If you can deal practically with pain and fear, challenge your own normal limitations to find pleasure,  boy oh boy will you have a fun life!

Raziel asked just one question then grinned. This just shows me a person who looks for a way to get to the essence of any situation then act on it, conciously ignoring the rules or procedure. Is this accurate?

I see that many people have viewed this post. Not many actually answered the questions. The ones that do are the kind of people who tend to readily take action. The sort of people who are open to new opportunities.

Similarly there are many people who would stare at the box forever. Some would eventually open it. Some would walk away. Many chose not to bother or get involved.

PS Last night whilst half awake/dreaming in bed I was thinking about what to write as a response, I remembered a modern sci-fi film called  'Sphere'. (Very very underrated film) I fully recommend you watch this film after taking part in this little test. It might even be a revelation!

Things Are Not As They Seem

Hi oldbill.

Just noticed your post. I agree there are some interesting answers and some interesting comments.
I just thought of a theory that both could be in the box at the same time.
Crazy? How can you have 2 things in a box when there is only 1 of 2 polar opposites in it?

My answer is that there is nothing in the box. Whether it is pleasurable or painful depends on your perspective and expectations, your personality type.
If you were fearful that there was something terribly painful in the box, you would have much pleasure in finding that there is nothing in there afterall.
If however you were hoping that there was something wonderful in the box, you would be terribly dissapointed, pained at finding that there was nothing in there afterall.

Vivid.

Would I normally handle you?
How much can I sell you for?
