To all Members and guests in this... there is something i want to ask you
once upon a time there was a town named Roanoke, it is unknown what happened there but everyone in the entire town just vanished and it is unknown why...
The only clue?
the word "Croatoan" was carved onto a tree in the center of town
Are there any Theories?

It was written Croatoan, cause there were people from Croatia who camed there by a boat, and they all dissapeared. I know this cause Im from Croatia. We had many sailors, and many, many people from my country sailed all over the world.

Nobody knows why and where they went. Its a mystery here also.....

I think the most probable explanation is that the settlers moved from the colony to the Chesapeake Bay area to in turn be killed by native americans wanting to prevent further land seizure by more english colonists.The word "crotoan" may have no bearing at all to the actual mystery itself.

Very true Hunter,I was somewhat skeptical of disease only because of the lack of any bodies & such but these are the kinds of questons I hope science can answer some day.Have a nice weekend,carter

um 'giggles' 'giggles' Croatoan is a Aquaenean word that means 'until the sun shines'
they were Aquas that were taken as prisoners of war by the Tolka 'giggles'
as for the word 'until the sun shines' refers to war and when wars over the"sun shines" and the war has been over'giggles' for 53yrs

you humans should of asked that Regon guy he knew(because he "was" an Aqua

this is my favorite theory, why assume the natives were so quick to kill the white settlers?

 it would depend on the tribe and they often times treated their prisoners very well.  They weren't the blood thirsty savages that the settlers/government painted them out to be, they simply got tired of watching their way of life destroyed, no different than any other culture when defending their lands.

Whitefox17,I think i'll stay with the more probable scenario i've  already layed out  here not to mention Crotoan could also have been scribed on the tree as a means for notifying John Smith as to where half of the colony assimilated(being Crotoan Island) As the other half split to the Chesapeake Bay.I would however glady examine any "new" evidence" you present ,if you'll send me the link,you can also send any link where it's theorized that Regan(at least,I think you mean former President Ronald Reagan)also belonged to the group you cite.

You also refer to the humans on here; but id be willing to bet(call me crazy) that you also fall into the human category as well but if your not "human" like the rest of excuse me I mean human like me.Im trying to keep the amount of times I piss off the natives around here to a minimum.As where I love all the material on here & participating in the discussions im also probably skeptic(public enemy)#1,you can take your pick I suppose.I pretty much doubt when anyone on here  claims to be any race other than human,simply because none of the greatest minds in science or medicine have ever shown it possible for this to occur let alone that a human skeletal system could support any massive changes in it's physiology but I am curious as to what "race" you claim to be from & any information outside of anecdotal that you could provide me with for further study.

I dont doubt that individuals here have had some incredible things happen to them that have yet to be explained but I do have a certain degree of skepticism in regards to other claims,citing the lack of any real empirical evidence but I look forward to learning something new from your own experiences.Stay well,Carter

So this sounds dumb, and is probably not the right thing, but i read a book (fictional, so again probably not right, idk) where there was an advanced version of vampire that fed off vampires and they were called croatoan. I dont know if thats actually what their called, but its rumored that there really is a type of vampire like that. just a suggestion

Hello? How many times do I have to repeat that CROATOAN comes from CROATIAN..... if you dont believe me, you can search the old navy books and you will see that croatian navy men were and are still very highly considered of, due to very long history of boat making.....

Also, you will find many families that still have croatian surnames, although they live in south America or whatever for couple of hundreds of years....

Well then Whitefox17,why stop at this mystery?I mean hell,enlighten us on the dinosaurs,early man,the pyramids,crucifiction/resurrection,great flood,life on mars,Kennedy asassination etc... Im sorry but telling me you come from some made up race possibly dug out of an obscure sci-fi book isnt what i call proof positive in regards to the mystery of Roanoke.If you have lived as long as you say im sure youd have amassed many artifacts & other items as such but im sure you'll have a reason why you either dont have or cant produce any such items,correct?Also what does Ronald Reagan have to do with any of this?
