666 (the digit) itself means nothing but is a symbol which means everything

I was under the impression that the number 6 was the number of the devil. And the reason there was 3 of them is because that for everything good there is evil. The Holy Trio-Holy Spirit, God, Jesus. Satan has a Trio too. Cheesy

[Glimpse the Unthinkable]

« Reply #51 on: November 05, 2005, 07:19:46 PM »

In May 2005 it was reported that scholars at Oxford University using advanced imaging techniques had been able to read previously illegible portions of an early (third century) version of the Book of Revelation, part of its Oxyrhynchus collection of papyri. The fragment gives the Number of the Beast as 616. Scholars now believe the number in question has very little to do with the devil. It was actually a complicated numerical riddle in Greek, meant to represent someone's name. "It's a number puzzle -- the majority opinion seems to be that it refers to the Roman emperor Nero."

Yes but it's stuck now every one knows it as the Devil's Number and that won't change for a very long time.

Morning,
In response to the claim that the Bible is just a book, I would like to offer that regardless if the idea of Jesus Christ, God, and the stories of Testaments (Bible) do exist, they give hope and purpose to countless people around the world.  Furthermore, no one can deny that the principles of the Ten Commandments are anything but righteous and basis of most (if not all) human law.  Sometimes people take it out of context, as in the Crusades and religious persecution.  Just as the ancient Greeks/Romans invented and believed in gods and godesses may we as a modern people benefit from strong belief in God even if He should prove false.  I myself, though strictly raised as a Christian Catholic, have experienced many situations in which I questioned the true possibility of an ultimate higher power, and at severe times, completely doubted His existence.  However, whatever the reason may be, I cannot let go of the idea of something greater then ourselves when you consider all the marvels of this world, (I do not mean the 8 wonders of the world American society has decreed, rather I refer to the miracle that is society itself,  a network of interactions and technology that somehow self-sustain down the most minuscule detail.  Though some would believe human life is a cancer to this planet and viruses such as Ebola and AIDS are its defense mechanisms against what is the human parasite) ANYWAYS life with reasoning abilities must always wonder what else lies outside of what we know and can prove.  Accepting this, can we deny that if something of tremendous holy power exists, then an enemy, a force of evil must also exist?  While belief an unproven God may cause us to act just, will not belief in an ultimate evil create fear in most people and only reinforce good behavior?  Since the mass populations do believe in God, Satan, and the representation of evil through the number 666, and have shaped life around said beliefs (perhaps yet another rumor but I once heard this is the reason minutes stop at 60?  Of course this may be complete nonsense, I have no idea) it is only a given that we must accept the strengths and faults of organized religion, (including a possible mistake in the meaning of the number 666, I think that was the purpose of this post...) whether we belong to it or not, and continue to progress with good hearts and sound minds.
May you remain educated,

Oh right,
I have one last thing to add, when considering that the Mayans were correct in predicting the coming of a New Era or "apocalypse" if you will, in 6-7 years, why would any argumentation over a number matter? providing that the Mayans were more accurate astronomers and mathematicians then we are now, of course.
Sweet dreams,
