Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up the U.S. distribution rights for the CG-animated family friendly film "Planet 51."

Variety reports TriStar Pictures is lined up to release the film on Nov. 20th, 2009, with Dwayne Johnson and Jessica Biel signed to provide voice talent. Justin Long, Seann William Scott, Gary Oldman and John Cleese are also signed for the film’s voice cast. The movie is produced by Ilion Studios.

“Planet 51” is produced by Ignacio Perez Dolset and Guy Collins with Peter Graves, Michael Ryan and Jose Rodriguez executive producing.

The film features an alien adventure following an astronaut who lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first to set foot on it. However, he discovers it's inhabited by little green people who live in a white picket-fenced world reminiscent of 1950s America.

New Line had picked up the domestic distribution rights for the big budgeted animated film. The studio released the film after it was folded into Warner Bros. in February.

Warner Bros. was set to release the film in the summer of 2009, but the film’s producers insisted on a November release which would have put the film in competition with Warner Bros. next Harry Potter flick.
