It seems that I may not know my own strength. I've been having some issues with it (I know, I'm a very problematic person.  undecided wink).

When I feel very strong emotions, I seem to suddenly gain strength and speed--I've noticed it especially when I'm angry, and it frightened me. Naturally, being only a child, I tried to suppress it. I have some anger issues, so I was really afraid of hurting people. So I rejected emotions. Not completely, but enough to help me. Now, years later, I'm noticing some problems. My friends and I like to hit each other, just messing around, but what feels like a tap to me actually hurts them. In my martial arts class, I hurt my partner many times accidentally. Things like that keep happening. It's like ever since I tried to suppress my emotions they've been trying to leak out.

I really need some advice. I don't want to hurt anyone, but I don't want everything to build up and become a worse problem. Is there any way I can harness it, to use it when I need it and only when I need it?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.  smiley Thanks.

heh, I reminded of the incredible hulk.

Now first off don't surpress your emotions, that would apply to anybody not just people like you, however instead of attacking somebody focus it on more productive or creative tasks, rage makes a great motivatior.

Exactly, I bottle emotions, so I know what I am talking about. I don't have anything like super strength, but I DID pull a knife on my own sister once. Not pretty.

Try meditating, I have not been successful myself, but just trying seems to have helped me before I hit a bleak period and quit. I am trying to pick it up again, so I can deal with my emotions in a more healthy and safe manner.

Lol. That didn't even occur to me  laugh .

I know. I try to. And I meditate every day. I don't think I'm strong enough for that to be considered superstrength, but when I'm angry or upset, I'm strong enough to be dangerous. I haven't permanently damaged anyone, but I have given them some pretty bad bruises when I'm just playing around and specifically trying not to be rough with them.

If there's any way to control it so I can use it to help people, life would be perfect!  grin

That's bulls**t, anger isn't some separate entity within yourself as you are trying to say, it's not a wild and uncontrollable beast. Anger, and strength, are no different from any other part of your body like a limb or an eyeball.

If you have enough control to suppress it until you don;t want to anymore and just explode like I do, then you can certainly learn he more complicated process of dealing with it in a healthy manner. The only difference is that it's more complicated, not harder.

As for not knowing your own strength, simply get to know it. Experiment, learn how much it takes t hurt things, or break a branch, and learn how much control it takes to keep from getting there. Memorize your own limits just like multiplication facts.

It's your body hun, you can control it. It's just a manner of being pointed in the right direction. Look at the monks who can lift red hot iron pots without getting burned, or can learn to walk up mountains on their hands. This is no different, just a little more unusual.

I know what you're talking about, Zilla. I'm monstrously strong whether or not I'm angry, but when I get into an actual fight and I get angry enough I tend to black out. When I black out is when I do the most damage. It's very rare for me to get truly angry now and most of the time when I get into a fight I finish it before it can get to that point.

All I can really tell you is that if you're meditating and you still get that feeling of extreme anger, you're probably not concentrating on the proper thing when you do.

That's a good way of wording it  smiley. You're right.

As for experimenting with it, I'll try, but do you have any advice on how to tap into the potential strength when I'm not angry? Most of the time, I'm angry in environments where experimenting isn't feasible.  tongue

I try to meditate how my Shaolin Ryu instructor taught me-- I'm not very good, but I try. How do you suggest I meditate?  grin Maybe I need a different method.

KitsuneFue, would it be possible for you to share with us some examples of your physical prowess? I would very much be interested in hearing any details that you might be willing to share. Thanks.

Physical excersise, you won't be angry and it will also teach you more about how your body operates:

1) do weights - in order to build your strength and to keep a tab on how strong you are naturally

2) run - not only will it feel great it's a good way of getting fitter and also concentrates the mind on your physical movements (a form of meditation)

3) I'd suggest gymnastics or one of the fighting arts thats non contact - in time you'll learn to control your movements and this will help

4) meditate and practice self control - so that you don't lose your temper as easily - you can do this by keeping rubber bands on your wrist and snapping them everytime you start to feel angry or annoyed

when emotions come out, you tend to have a thing called "adrenaline rush" which makes you seem stronger or faster, so you sure its not just an adrenaline rush?? everybody has it when they get sad, angry, stressed exc

Strife's probably right, in which case it's a chemical response and probably one you shouldn't try to control by 'messing with it'.

Strength we all have it to some extent, but it's how we use it.
I know exactly how it feels to use strength accidentally, and hurt people.
I almost nailed a friend in the head with a wheel barrow which was both kickass, and bad at the same time.
It's best to control your anger ,and emotions is to have one person you can express yourself. Find something that helps you express yourself.

Hope this helps........Grizz of York.

Wouldnt really say i have uncontrolled strength for I've been ... from the time i realized myself.. for about 6-7 years now.
And as for the strength, learning how to control it was quite hard i must say. I wish you the best of luck to balance it out,
but from the time i noticed any kind of super-strength of sorts was pretty much when i was able to carry a dishwasher when i was about 13

But yeah, what i might consider a poke, my friends could consider a decent punch.. Tongue
We have to remember, being gentle giants. ^^ for what i can see us.. is basically, we are here to help.
Specially in the state that the world is in.

Now take care of yourselves and try not to hurt those god forsaken humans too much... xD

Just dont let it get to your head, and think you can get in fights and win them all. Just cause humans aren't rare like you doesn't mean they are weak, as history obviously shows the human race is not one to fark with and underestimate.
