devil, demon, what's the difference?
« on: December 31, 2008, 09:31:31 pm »
Just like the subject says, devil, demon, what's the difference?

Now in my opinion devils are fallen holy creatures and have the whole fire & brimstone thing going for them while demons were just always evil and aren't restricted to a common archtype. . .
I have multiple personalities, one is a were-Sheepenguin, one is a fruit vampire, one likes to imagine cruel and unusal totures, that one's name is Bob the VI.

The title of "The Devil", was granted to the fallen angel we know as "Lucifer" or "Satan".

The term "demon", in the Holy Bible, is used to refer to malevolent possessing spirits believed to be angels who fell from heaven with Lucifer.

In my opinion, the two are just titles for perhaps the same type of entity that behaved in different ways. Over the time, the two have diverged and are believed to mean different things.

ok here we go, please, im not meaning to say that anyone is wrong, this is just my own experience with demons and devils

demon= a defectie of heaven, an angel whom, not agreeing with Jehovah's will (God is a title not a name), is banished from the heavenly realm

Devil=anyone or thing seekings to drain or destroy good, honest people or to corrupt innocence

Lucifer=not his real name, Lucifer and Satan are, again, titles. His name is Samuel and my biggest thing is people blame Samuel for all these things while never having proof that after Christ ascended he didnt just give up and wait for judgement day

AGAIN, these statements are my opinions, and are in no way meant to offend or upset anyone

I wud say that the difference is that there are lots of demons and only one devil, and the devil is the ultimate evil, most demons i always thought were just mischevious like... i don't know maybe gremlins from the movie, that's what i always associate with demons!  %*)

His name is Samuel

Would it be possible for you to explain to us the process by which you came to the conclusion that the Devil's actual name is Samuel? Thanks.

He was referring to "Samael" and misspelled it wrong. However, Samael is nothing more than the Angel Of Death, and is just another mythical figure that has been used to make up the mythical figure of "Satan".

Now, my knowledge of Judaic demonology is rather scanty and meager , but wasn't Sammael held by some scholars and theologians to have spawned a line of demons and fiends with Lillith? I apologise in advance if my question detracts from the subject matter at hand, but I am curious to understand why Samaeal is regarded by some sources as being both the servant and enemy of the Judaic god.

Samael is a fairly ambiguous figure in Judaic and Christian mythology, similar to the angel Abbadon. People can't decide if he's good or evil, and either way nobody really likes him.

I dont wanna offend no one, but I somehow think that DV should know this best.

I doubt it. Those tainted by personal bias are often the least reliable when it comes to having proper information.

Hm, maybe he should work on the faith part first? Of course, knowing thy enemy is pretty important.

You're not really in any position to make reliable proclamations about me then, are you?
